Chapter 1:
Discovering Your Passion
Why Passion Matters
In today’s fast-paced world, most people are chasing stability, titles, or monthly paychecks—often ignoring what makes them feel alive. But true fulfillment comes when you align your work with your passion. Passion isn’t just a hobby you enjoy in your free time. It’s a source of energy, purpose, and inner joy. And yes, it can also pay your bills. This chapter is about helping you recognize your passion and realize how powerful it can be when you decide to follow it with intention.
From Passion to Purpose
When you do what you love, you bring out the best version of yourself. Passion makes you patient during setbacks, creative during challenges, and persistent even when the results are slow. That’s why people who follow their passions often outperform others—because they care deeply about what they’re building. It’s not just about money; it’s about meaning.
My Own Journey: Pursuing multiple passions. And those passions pay.
Right from when I was young, I have thrived on pursuing multiple interests. This habit has well followed me into adult life. I pride in being a multi-hyphenate. I’m a digital marketer, serial entrepreneur, farmer, farm stay host, professional speaker, event organizer while being a parent. One crucial decision I have taken early on is that I need to make each of my hobbies financially self-sustaining. Even better, profitable. This way, I can continue to invest time and money into my hobbies and get better at them over time while enjoying my pursuits.
My passion for social media spawned Breathe Digital, a digital marketing company that helps leading brands achieve their business goals. My penchant for the stage led me to co-founding the Professional Speakers Association of India and starting my own professional speaking business that led me to speak in 24 countries and counting. My childhood passion for nature led me to starting Vaksana Farms, a 13 acre organic permaculture farm, which has become a green oasis and a profitable venture.. My desire to help my parents earn money, led me to create Vaksana Farm Stay, which was rated as India’s Best Farm Stay by Outlook Traveller Magazine and won Gold at the India Responsible Tourism Awards. My passion for creating communities and hosting events led me to start Vaksana Events, which hosts ultra-niche residential events that have become profitable.
When I read the above paragraph, it sounds like a boast. That would be partly right because I’m very proud of myself for making my passions into multiple professions. The real intention behind those words is to help others live a joyful life where they pursue their dreams with heartfelt happiness. That is really the crux of this book and my workshop.
The trigger for me to author this book is seeing so many people around me that let go of wonderful hobbies either because they became very expensive to pursue or because it was eating away time from their full time job that pays their bills. What if their hobbies can be sources of secondary incomes? Wouldn’t that be great? This book and the workshop that I conduct are exactly that. Helping people develop their passion by making them a profitable pursuit.
What Passion Might Look Like for You
Passion looks different for everyone.
You might feel it when you write, when you paint, when you cook, teach, garden, or build something with your hands. You might feel drawn to helping others, solving problems, telling stories, or creating beauty.
Here are some clues to help you recognize your passion:
You lose track of time while doing it.
You’d still enjoy it even if nobody paid you.
You feel energized and satisfied afterward.
You often think about it, research it, or talk about it with excitement.
Passion isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it whispers. That’s why you need to listen closely.
Start Small, But Start Now
You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need the willingness to begin. Follow your curiosity. Try new things. Allow yourself to explore, experiment, and express.
When I started Vaksana, it wasn’t with a detailed business model. It was with a strong feeling—that this was the right direction for me. The details came later. The clarity came with action. And so can yours.
