Chapter 2:

Building a Personal Brand Around Your Passion What Is a Personal Brand?

A personal brand is how the world sees you—and more importantly, how they remember you. It’s not about logos or fancy websites. It’s about your story, your values, your voice, and the impact you make. When you start working on something you’re passionate about, your personal brand becomes a bridge between your passion and the people who need it.

You already have a brand, whether or not you realize it. The question is: are you shaping it consciously?

Why Personal Branding Matters

If you’re passionate about baking, music, healing, writing, or farming, how will others know? They can only connect with you when your passion is visible.

A strong personal brand helps you:

  • Stand out in a noisy world
  • Build trust with your audience
  • Open doors to collaborations and opportunities
  • Turn followers into supporters—and eventually customers

My Journey with Personal Branding

When I started Vaksana Farms, I didn’t market it like a hotel or a retreat space. I simply shared my values—my love for conscious living, organic food, and the beauty of slow life. I told stories from the farm. I showed behind-the-scenes work. I talked about joy, simplicity, and the satisfaction of seeing seeds turn into saplings.

As a public speaker, I didn’t sell motivational quotes. I simply shared what I’d learned from following my passion—and the honest lessons from the journey. Slowly, people connected with the story, not just the service. That’s what branding really is: sharing the real you, consistently and confidently.

Where to Start With Your Personal Brand

You don’t need to be famous to build a brand. You just need to be clear and consistent. Here’s how you can begin:

Know Your Why

Why does your passion matter to you? What change do you want to make through it?

Define Your Values

What principles do you stand for? Honesty, creativity, sustainability, freedom, compassion?

Choose Your Medium

Do you prefer writing blogs, speaking on video, posting photos, or teaching in person? Choose a format that feels natural to you.

Share Your Journey

People don’t connect with perfection—they connect with stories. Share your wins, your lessons, your behind-the-scenes work.

Be Consistent

Whether it’s once a week or once a day, keep showing up. Let people associate you with your passion.

Real Tip: You Are the Brand

People buy why you do what you do, not just what you do. Whether you’re a potter, fitness trainer, or herbal tea maker—you are the brand. Your energy, your values, and your story are what make your work memorable.

Workbook Exercise: Define Your Brand

Take time to reflect and write down your answers:
What passion are you building a brand around?
What does this passion say about who you are?
What message or feeling do you want people to remember you for?
What 3 words should people associate with your name?
Who do you want to serve or inspire through your passion?
What kind of stories or posts can you share that reflect your values?
What makes your journey or approach unique?
Which platform (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, newsletter, podcast, etc.) feels natural to you?

Are there any blocks (fear of judgment, perfectionism) stopping you from showing up online?

What’s one small action you can take this week to build your personal brand?

Final Words

Your personal brand isn’t built overnight. But it begins with one decision: to show up as yourself. Share your passion with honesty. Let people see your journey, not just the outcome. You don’t need to shout to stand out—you just need to speak from the heart.
