Chapter 11:
Stop Managing Time, Start Managing Energy
1. Energy is the Real Currency
Time is fixed 24 hours a day, no matter who you are. But energy? That’s flexible. Some people get more done in two focused hours than others do in eight distracted ones. Learning how your energy flows and using it wisely changes everything. It’s not about cramming more into your day. It’s about showing up better in what you do choose.
2. Know Your Peaks and Valleys
Start noticing when you feel most alert, creative, and motivated. Is it in the morning? After lunch? Late at night? Align your hardest tasks with your peak energy, and save admin work or routine stuff for the dips. When you stop fighting your natural rhythm, your work feels smoother even joyful.
3. Protect Your Energy
Energy isn’t just physical it’s emotional and mental too. Scrolling endlessly, dealing with toxic people, saying yes to everything these drain you fast. Set better boundaries. Take real breaks. Move your body. Drink water. These tiny habits protect your energy and allow you to show up present and powerful.
4. From Burnout to Brilliance
Managing your energy is how you avoid burnout. When you ignore your needs in pursuit of productivity, your body and mind eventually revolt. But when you tune in and care for your energy like a precious resource, you work better and live better. You don’t need more time — you need more you in your time.
Reflection Questions:
- What time of day do you feel most energized and focused?
- What are your biggest energy leaks right now?
- How do you recharge and are you doing it regularly?
- What would it look like to design your day around energy instead of time?
- When did you last feel “in flow,” and what helped create that?
